Dave and Steve stopped by the studio to promote the release of (ONe). At the top of the show, they filled Bob Coburn in on the details of how they got together.
They answered several questions, including: whether The Panic Channel is just a side project, what it was like to be on The Tonight Show, Dave's divore being in the public eye, Dave's performance with Heart, if there was going to be a Rock Star: Season 3, how Josh Abraham became involved as their producer, does Dave ever find time to himself between his various projects,
This weeks "encore" question of the week for TPC was from Mark James of Breaking Benjamin. He asks: "[Dave] What are some of your influences as a guitar player growing up and what musicians you used to inspire yourself?" Dave replied by saying "I think there should be a policy among musicians that you should never ask each other that kind've a question ... because that's the #1 question on any interview you do anywhere." He then told him to look on the internet, but did go to say his main influences are his bandmates, and when growing up it was Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Daniel Ash, and Robert Smith.
A good question that came up was how the fall tour would be different from the spring tour. Although they couldn't say who they were thinking of touring with, to either support them or for TPC to support, Steve did mention theres the possibility of opening for a "bigger" band which would get their music out to their crowd as well as TPC's. He also made a point to say that they'd be playing for people who've had a chance to listen to the album.
Raiana from kHZ called in to ask them what their writing process was, whether they wrote together or seperately, which Steve joked about buying a computer program that they could put chords and a lyrical idea in and it would output a song. "Dude, ya know, like, why do you need to sit around and get all tortured, and walk around with a sketchbook, dude, that's so last century, that's in your dad's rock band, he's so '92." [Steve]
A portion of "Night One" was played coming back from commercial. Bob took this oppurunity to ask "What the hell is Planchette?" Steve replied that it's a "song cycle" that's an "old school bloated, pretentious, deep rock masterpiece" which collectively is a ghost story about the Ouiji board. "Night One" is just the first of the collection of songs that make up Planchette.
Steve was asked what was the inspiration behind "Why Cry." He responded by saying he went through a heartbreak, so as a healing process, he picked up his guitar and wrote it as it was the only way he could feel better. Dave mentioned he heard it, and insisted to make it into a song and put it on the record.
Just before going off air, a caller asked what the next single would be. Steve answered "Teahouse," and mentioned it should be out in about a month.
Steve asked the "encore" question for next weeks guest, Stone Sour: "My question would be familiar with Slipknot, and also saw you last week on the Tonight Show, and you were wearing sunglasses, so I'm curious, do you think that it's freeing in a performance to have a mask, does it provide you with a freedom that you don't feel otherwise?"
